This is one festival that is celebrated only in Nagpur. To celebrate this festival the people here create statues of evil forces and take out procession. These statues are ultimately burnt and it is believed that they have driven out all the evil forces from their lives. It is said that the city becomes pious after conducting this ritual. A number of cultural programs like dance and drama are also organized during the festival.

This is the harvest festival held in the month of August each year. It is one of the most significant festivals of Nagpur. The farmers of Nagpur celebrate this festival to honor their bullocks who help them cultivate their land all through the year. The bullocks are bathed and brushed properly on this day. After this the farmers and their wives dress them up with colorful clothes and accessories and offer them khichadi prepared from bajara. The bullocks are then taken across the village in a procession. The beats of drums and the melodious music of lezhim set the mood of this procession. During this festival, a fair is also organized by the villagers. A number of sports like kabaddi, kho-kho, volleyball wrestling, etc are played to enjoy the festivity. The festival rejuvenates the farmers who work hard through out the year.

Just like the other cities and towns of Maharashtra, Nagpur also celebrates the Ganesh Utsav with great pomp and show. The festival is held in August or September, precisely on the fourth day of Bhadrapada as per the Hindu calendar. During this festival people bring home idols of lord Ganesha. This festival continues for 8-10 days during which these statues are worshiped every morning and evening and offered modaks. On Anant Chaturdashi, the idols are carried in procession with people dancing to the beats of drums and singing religious songs all soaked in the festive mood. The idols are finally immersed in a holy river or lake.

This festival is celebrated with equal enthusiasm in the Orange city. A huge procession is taken out from the city’s main Ram Mandir and it goes to all its major areas. People are seen immersed in Ram-bhakti as his chariot moves slowly across the city. Flowers are showered on Lord Rama’s statue and people dance to the tunes of various religious songs. Numerous people come dressed up in traditional Indian dresses. Some of them even wear masks of Lord Ganesha and Hanuman to lift the mood of the festival further. The procession ends at the same place towards the end of the day.
