The city of Nagpur basks the glory of being one of the cleanest and greenest city of our country. There is another event in the city which mobilizes the entire town this is the annual Marathon. This event is organized by the International day for nonviolence organizing committee. The main agenda behind this event is to promote the principles of peace and non violence across the globe. This event is organized on the death anniversary of father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi. The event is rightly named as Ahinsa Daud.

As awareness among people regarding their fitness levels in increasing steadily such sporting events are becoming very common. These events apart from the commercial aspects are also in news for the social cause they address. Like in case of Nagpur international marathon the message of communal harmony and peace is very prominent. To avoid any last minute hassles registrations are done prior to the event. The registered participants are constantly kept updated regarding the event. Even the traffic is diverted in some areas to ensure smooth passage. The entire city comes to a halt as crowd gathers in large numbers to witness the marathon.

The prize money on stake is also huge and winners are handsomely rewarded. This event has marathon, half marathon and few more categories. Since its inception in the year 2009 this event has grown in terms of participation, media coverage, sponsorship and many other parameters. So it is regarded as one of the most awaited event of the year and is getting bigger and better with each passing year. The number of people participating in this marathon has already crossed the iconic mark of 1 Lac. Athletes from more than 18 countries have participated in it. Participants came from far flung countries of Africa, Australia and Europe.

Athletes from African countries like Kenya and Ethopia have always dominated the event.  Indian stars who have represented the country on various international platforms like commonwealth games and Asian games have also been a part of this extravaganza. Many Bollywood celebrities have also been associated with this marathon.

The race starts at Reserve Bank Square (Kasturchand Park) and its ending point is Yashwant Stadium, Dhantoli in Nagpur.
