Permanent Account Number (PAN), which is a must for creating your paypal account, is a ten-digit alphanumeric number. Anyone can apply for a PAN card, which is issued by the Income Tax Department. Nowadays, application for PAN card becomes easier with the help of internet. You can apply for PAN card online at Rs 96, which is paid through, check, demand draft, credit/debit card or net-banking. The procedure of applying for Pan card online is described here.Step 1: Application form
- Visit the official website https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/pan/
- Click “New PAN for Indian citizens”
- Click ‘Online Application for New PAN”
- Fill the online application form without errors
- Note down the 15-digit acknowledgment number
- Save and print this acknowledgement
Step 2: Method of payment
Those, who pay by DD or cheque, should draw Demand Draft and Cheque in favour of NSDL-PAN payable at Mumbai. Those, who use credit card to pay, will be taken to the bank gateway where they have to select their bank and enter the 16 digit credit card number. If the payment is successful, acknowledgement will be displayed which should be saved and printed and sent to NSDL.
Step 3: Checklist and Dispatch
Documents to be submitted are identity proof (voters id card, driving license or passport) and address proof (driving license, passport, rent receipt, telephone or electricity bill).
Affix a recent colour photograph of the size 3.5 cm x 2.5 cm in the space provided in the acknowledgement
Write ‘APPLICATION FOR PAN – Acknowledgement Number’ on the envelop.
